“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” ~John 14:18
You are never alone. You don’t have to live this life on your own. I’ve got this.
No truer words have ever been murmured in the heart of a Christian by the Holy Spirit. Yet still we feel like we have to strive, work, fight, and force our way throughout this world. I forget so easily that anything good is a gift from the Father, and instead, I act as if anything good thing in life must come as a result of hard work by my hand, my will, and my way. Certainly, hard work and determination are important elements for earthly success. But eternally? My hand, my will, and my way have a major problem: Feylyn is at the central focus. Me, my, and I are not in control and never will be. See, I’m learning two things as I walk here on earth. 1. I don’t have to be my own god. 2. Even if I thought I could act as God and provide everything I needed for myself BY MYSELF, I can’t. I’m bound to fail. This view of life as a dog eat, dog world just got put a little bit more right side up. Once you encounter those two realizations, what’s next? Either you take a deep breath and release, knowing that the internship site, the prodigal friend, the unexpected bill in the mail, and the client that is “probably every disorder in the DSM-IV-TR twice over” is in God’s hands, OR the fear sets in. “Okay, so I’m not in control, God is in control. Alright then. But can He be trusted?”. It’s the sad state of our humanness when we could ever wonder if the God who created heaven and earth will somehow mess up our life worse than we ever could. If somehow, His good for us isn’t exactly the best for us. Lord, You have my life. Just don’t blow it, okay? My prayer for each one of us is that with every little (or big!) thing we hand over to God, He surprises us. I pray that the answers to our prayers will be so magnificent that we feel stupid for ever questioning the goodness in the heart of God, and when things in life seemingly don’t go our way, we’ll experience a renewed sense of peace, hope, and faith. Let’s make everyday a day of rest.
In His Grace,
Feylyn Lewis
