The Higher Calling…Wherever You Go

We plan the way we want to live,
but only God makes us able to live it.
~Proverbs 16:9 (The Message)

But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.~ Matthew 6:33

In the life of a graduate student, April is like the 58 seconds left on the clock in a fourth quarter basketball game. Your heart knows there’s enough time left for a big finish, but your mind begins rehearse all of the likely scenarios: landing the internship spot of your dreams (counseling & doctoral students), staying at Regent for another (unplanned) 5th year (doctoral students), or wondering if a job truly awaits you after May’s graduation (everyone). It’s enough to make you crawl back under your blankets and call it quits.

So here’s the thing: I can’t promise you that you’ll get the internship or practicum site that you desire, or the job that doesn’t require you to drive through the HRBT every morning at 6:30am. I can promise you that if you seek God in everything you do, He will direct and guide you along the best path for your life. “For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do”[1], so therefore live a life that will bring honor and glory to God. “But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.”[2]

This is the higher calling that we possess as children of God. Wherever you go, let your character remain unchanged. Serve with integrity, strive for excellence, and let your faith guide your every thought, deed, and word. May your lives be such that others will say “the world was not worthy of them.”[3]

Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand, Israel.~
Jeremiah 18:6

And the Lord shall guide you continually and satisfy you in drought and in dry places and make strong your bones. And you shall be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters fail not.~Isaiah 58:11

Yours in Christ,
