Visions and Journeys to High Places

One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree.

"Which road do I take?" she asked.

"Where do you want to go?" was his response.

"I don't know," Alice answered.

"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter.

~ Lewis Carroll {Alice in Wonderland}

“Where there is no vision, the people perish”…~Proverbs 29:18

Dearest sons and daughters of the King,
            Where do you want to go? The start of a new school year offers much in the way of opportunity. Many of us sense that we are on the very precipice of change, but the exactly where and the exactly how of it all is still a bit lacking. Some of you first-year students may be wondering why God sent you to Regent, even as you begin to fill in your shiny new planners with deadlines. Some of you, in your final year, faced with the incredible uncertainty of what lies on the other side of graduation, may be wondering the same thing. It’s okay!
Why did God bring you to Regent? deserves an answer. You may not have a Saul-like conversion story (“I was applying to _ and God sent my grandma AND a talking dog to tell me I was making the wrong choice!”) or, you just might. Either way, awesome. I want you to give serious consideration to why you're here, but also, what are you going to do while you’re here?
This brings me back to Alice.  Let’s say that these first weeks at school are your fork in the road. Lots of choices, lots of potential changes, but no clear plan. ‎"Each of us has a fire in our hearts for something. It's our goal in life to find it and keep it lit."[1]. Get a fire in your heart--actually, go hunting after it! Ask God for a vision for your time here at Regent—tell Him, “I want to know my purpose here and how I can fulfill it. I don’t want to miss anything You have for me in this place.” Then, go. Go! Join the club, volunteer for the class devotional, do the extracurricular research proposal. You never know where it might take you. In the time of waiting for our vision, we are never stagnant. Go with an open ear to God’s voice, commune with your own heart on your bed and be silent[2], ever mindful that God is faithful to answer your prayer. He loves to partner with us regarding our path in life! Trust that God has planted desires, i.e. “high places” inside of you that He will bring to fulfillment.
Yours in Christ,
Feylyn Lewis

Habakkuk 3:19
Yahweh, the Lord, is my strength.
He makes my feet like deer’s feet,
and enables me to go in high places.

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.~1 Corinthians 2:9-10

When difficulties are removed, what have we to do but to go on with our work, and not hang upon an objection? ~Matthew Henry {Commentary on the Whole Bible}
